Geothermal Checklist

Thank you for your inquiry to Geothermal Heating and Cooling Australia (GHCA)

Welcome to the world of Geothermal Heating and Cooling systems or Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP).  GSHP’s are the most energy efficient, cost effective and environmentally clean space conditioning systems available.

If you are thinking that heating, cooling and underfloor heating with Geothermal Heating and Cooling is the way forward and you can see how it will save you money, provide higher levels of comfort and reduce your carbon footprint then we invite you to the next step of the design process.

The Geoexchange Design

The next step is to understand exactly how Geoexchange will work in your home. This is done through the Geoexchange design process, which requires information on both your home and the ground conditions. The end result of the design process is a formal quotation which will provide you with the following:

A heat load calculation for your individual home. This calculation goes beyond the standard contractors rules of thumb and includes factors such as insulation, glazing, shading and ventilation to ensure you receive the optimal system for your home;

A Geoexchange design that has been optimized to your ground conditions;

A summary of installation costs for your individual Geoexchange system; and

Calculation of operating costs and energy savings, including comparison with conventional systems.

In order to complete this process we require the following:

House plans (pdf) showing floor plans, elevations and building materials (including insulation, window glazing etc);

Site plan (pdf) showing the land available for the loop field as well as any ponds, dams or bores present on site;

Site address;

Any available soil reports or information on site geology or hydrogeology;

Your preferred conditioning system: air ducted, hydronics or both;

Your preferred zoning: day/night, whole residence or any other mix of zones, spaces or levels;

Is pre-heating of domestic hot water required?;

Is there a pool, spa or other application you would like included;

Conventional systems under consideration, including installation costs if available (for cost-benefit analysis); and

Local utility prices for electricity, natural gas and/or LPG.

Do not worry if any of the above is not available as it does not mean the end of the design process. We have a number of in-house resources that enable us to readily obtain such information and/or make some safe assumptions.

Due to the intensive nature of the design process and the value of the information prepared, a small non-refundable deposit is applied to this service. If the project proceeds, this is simply deducted from the final project cost.
